The Genesis Idea is a vehicle through which those in need (organisations, charities, individuals) and those who are blessed enough to give (money, time or resources) can interact dynamically via a website. Harmonious Living spoke to one of its founders, Duncan Theron. What is your charity about, what are you trying to achieve? TheGenesisIdea is not a charity in itself but should rather be seen as a vehicle through which those in need (organisations, charities, individuals) and those who are blessed enough to give (money, time or resources) can interact dynamically via a website. What is the history of your charity and what was the motivation behind forming it? TheGenesisIdea was put to work in October 2005 when the website was launched. The idea behind the site was simply to channel time, resources and finances from those who wish to give to those in need i.e. unlocking the wealth of the world for the greater good of life.
We have found that so many people wish to give but don't know who to give to and where to find information on projects where they could become involved. The site simply aims to provide guidance regarding such projects which we have personally been involved in.
These projects range from a school in Soweto, a Marimba band in Dobsonville, a project teaching homeless kids in Hillbrow to be creative, an HIV project called Emthonjeni, supporting kids in the Endemni orphanage etc. The idea is to provide a variety of projects that might suit your preference in helping those in need.
What are your plans for the future of your charity? The immediate plans are to incorporate more organisations in need onto the site. We are now working with an organisation who provides bibles and support to people in prisons.
The next step is to create a larger database of people who wish to participate in our dream after which a 'google' type search engine will be incorporated into the site. The search engine will allow either the one in need or the one who wish to give to find an easy match.
How can people get involved in your charity? Currently the best would be to simply browse through the site. If any of the projects interest anybody they could contact the organisation directly (as per the contact details on the web) or make contact with Duncan Theron at
