![]() Being retrenched at age 57 was not a comfortable situation. Especially when it is badly handled. Having to undergo two major knee-operations at around the same time did not improve my situation either. Especially when arthritis set in.I guess the 'universe' was determined to test my endurance – and teach me a few lessons! And it did! With the benefit of 50/50 hindsight, that tough time has turned out tops. After 35 years in the Financial Services Industry, this set of circumstances opened up new growth opportunities: It all started with a gift. My eldest daughter gave me a piece of plastic for Christmas! (Well, actually polypropylene, as I later discovered.) It looked like an overgrown pizza with a bad case of acne. I was supposed to walk around on it for a few minutes a day. It was called a HEALTHBOARD, and it was going to help heal my knees and my head simultaneously. (Ha! Another 'gizmo for the gullible'!) Despite my skepticism, being extremely conscious of our family 'audit system', I determined to use it regularly to avoid the accusation of being an old 'fuddy-duddy'. To my absolute amazement, after only a few weeks, I found my crotchety old knees and mind complaining less. I started to come to terms with my aches, pains and unemployed status - instead of wallowing around in self-pity. But it wasn't only my knees and mind that were improving, I was sleeping better and my confidence was returning. Some ten years ago, REFLEXOLOGY PATHS started to appear in Eastern municipalities and universities, some German factories even installed something similar for their workers - where folk shucked their shoes and trampled away their problems. (Is it a coincidence that they so closely resemble the Healthboard which pre-dates them by some ten years?) Earlier this year, having run clinical trials on this phenomenon, the Oregon Research Institute in the USA published encouraging results achieved by regularly walking barefoot on such surfaces – amongst other findings a significant lowering of blood pressure was experienced. (Search for "cobblestonewalking" on the net.) A month or so ago, we elected to change the name to REFLEX-O-BOARD at the suggestion of our Canadian distributor, because of the proliferation of Boards of Health on the Web. Most things medical have their limitations! The Board may not be able to match the hands-on treatments of a skilled practitioner, but as a convenient 'at home' health maintenance and improvement regime, it has achieved amazing results. Some practitioners even recommend the Board to their clientele between treatments and carry a stock to rent out or sell for this purpose. Experience your own Board. Or consider becoming an agent. Such a simple, straightforward process requires no particular skills or training. After all, what could be more natural than walking barefoot? This is the powerful story of the author's struggle with Multiple Sclerosis and how a healer's unusual prescription of mindful altruism - to 'give away 29 gifts in 29 days' - ignited her energy, her happiness, and invited more abundance into her life.
