If you are out of shape after the winter, the Tshwane University of Technology wants you.

This was for a new study, the institution said on Friday.

In turn for playing guinea pig, men between the ages of 35 and 50 would be got into shape for free before the December holidays.

The university's department of sport, rehabilitation and dental sciences was busy with a research project and training programme to determine the impact of regular exercise on reducing their risk of
cardiovascular disease.

The 10-week study will also look at the impact of physical activity on the immune system.

Men chosen to participate would be assigned a personal trainer and undergo comprehensive pre-training and post-training assessments.

Project leader Andrew McKune said no one need to be afraid to get involved.

"The aim is to build up your fitness, thus training sessions will start slowly, with a 20-30 minute training session initially, increasing to 50 minutes at a time as each participants' fitness levels
improve," he said.

"Apart from getting into shape, at the end of the study everyone will receive a booklet containing all the relevant information on their individual risk for cardiovascular disease," he added.

Men interested in participating can contact Renard Prinsloo on 012-382-4912 or Johann Sauer on 012-382-4238.
