OSHO Fragrance by Swami Chaitanya KeertiWhen I received this book I had not heard of Osho.  I actually had no idea what the book was about.  I say that up front so you can have a better idea from where my review comes.

I looked up Osho on line and found this short reference: Osho has been considered the most radical mystic of our time with a wide and well deserved influence on modern thought. I also found a local site...

www.osho.co.za

So... let's read it!

The book is a compilation of articles written by Swami Keerti and published in various newspapers over the last two years. According to the back cover of the book, Swami Keerti travels across the world conducting meditation workshops and sharing his spiritual sojourn.

To be honest, I was actually surprised at how 'readable' the articles were.

They are between two and four pages long... so a great book for inspiration when you have limited time.  Read an article and then keep its inspiring thoughts and wisdom in your head for the rest of the day.  Take this one for example... titled To be in romance with life is religion.  The last sentence reads... A really religious person is in love with life.  This is a higher kind of romance. And to be in romance with life is religion.

Please do not think this is a heavy book, filled with deep spiritual advice.  Yes the book is filled with ideas, spiritual help etc. but it is also thought provoking and often funny.

In the article titled Hugs are for Free, he says... several books have been written on the benefits of hugging. ... Our society does not recognise this human need and its response to this need is hardly sympathetic. ... What then is the alternative? Hug a tree... it won't get you into any trouble!

... Have you ever said hello to a tree?  Try it, and one day you will be surprised...

The contents are divided into the following headings:  the self;  awareness; laughter, hugs and real bliss; here and now; celebrate love; meditation; Shiva and shakti; relationships; Buddha; the masters and the mystics; and the final chapter, Zen.

The book is useful to read from start to finish or to delve into and see what comes up that you 'need' to read or read a chapter on whatever subject interests you when you open the book.

Why the title?  Again from the preface of the book... As this compilation carries fragrance of Osho's wisdom, hence the title Osho Fragrance.

I highly recommend this book as one to keep around, to delve into at regular or irregular times.. Whichever page you alight on will not disappoint you!
