Author: Geoff Hamilton![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Whether you want to grow better-tasting fruit and vegetables untainted by chemicals, find natural methods of pest and weed control, or create a garden that is safer for your children, pets and wildlife, The Organic Garden Book is your practical, easy-to-follow guide to gardening with, rather than against, nature. As far as I can tell this book covers everything that you need to know to start gardening organically. It starts with introductory chapters on soil types and soil improvements (including fertilizers), and organic pest, disease and weed control before moving onto comprehensive sections on planning and managing different types of gardens be they ornamental, container, vegetable, fruit, herb or greenhouse. The last chapters cover basic techniques (such as choosing the right equipment), when and how to water and propagation techniques. The very last chapter, in the form of an index, is titled the gardening year and gives very detailed instructions on what you should be doing in your garden during each of the seasons. This book is full of practical advice and information for both the thoroughly amateur and inexperienced gardener and for those whose fingers are starting to turn as green as the leaves of their trees. I myself, fitting very much into the first group, have found this book invaluable during my forays into the alien world of gardening. Although I am still somewhat daunted by how much I still have to learn I know that I now have the tools to get me onto and keep me on the right path. I don't believe this is one of the books that you can just start reading from the beginning but I imagine it will be frequently referred to during the seasons and will, in my house at least, become my gardening bible. |

This is the powerful story of the author's struggle with Multiple Sclerosis and how a healer's unusual prescription of mindful altruism - to 'give away 29 gifts in 29 days' - ignited her energy, her happiness, and invited more abundance into her life.
