Artist: Ed Jordan & Alan Glass

Beautiful CreaturesWith 'Beautiful Creatures' composers Ed Jordan (of The Wedding Show fame) and Alan Glass have created a timeless classic that will be remembered, hummed and sung along to for many years to come. I for one, having heard it for the first time three months ago, still quite happily sit in my car or at my desk and merrily sing the wonderful lines that still float around in my memory.

As the title suggests this CD features songs about different African animals with cute names and often quirky personalities. Some of the best are; 'Mafutha' the super hungry elephant who just can't stop eating, 'Lorenzo the Luckiest Lizard' who keeps losing his tail (but luckily nothing else!) and 'Imvubu the Happiest Hippo' who dances every night away, wiggling his tail in the moonlight. By far the most exciting track though, and I'm sure that it's everyone's favourite, is 'Lucas the Lazy Lion'. This is one of the classic sing-along-songs where he teaches us to purr, growl and finally roar like a lion - Lucas is just so cool!

There are also some lovely lullabies as well which nicely balance the album and promote a sense of calm after all of Lucas' antics. I especially enjoyed 'Down Comes the Rain' which has a beautiful gentle and lilting melody that just makes me want to curl up with a smile on my face and close my eyes.

I gave this CD to one of my nephews as a birthday present. He's only just turned two and I was a bit worried that he was too young for it. Apparently though it's now top of the charts in the car on the way to creche and I've heard that he makes a great lion.

If you're thinking to yourself "I can't stand listening to this kiddy music all the time" then don't worry. One of the wonderful things about the way the songs on this album were put together is that they have none of the really patronising stuff that all too many children's songs have. Parents will want to sing along with their children and rediscover the joys of a carefree childhood where cute songs rule and the wonders of nature capture the imagination.

Buy it for your son, your daughter, your friend's children, even sneakily get one for yourself - I guarantee that this CD will keep you and your family entertained for hours.

Smiles and laughter all round! Bring on Lucas! ROARRRRR!!!!
