![]() I have dabbled in the art of Tarot reading, and love the tactile sensation of shuffling the cards and laying the spreads. But for a novice like me, it was sometimes a huge amount of effort to cross reference all the cards with their meanings and try to work out what the implications of their positions in the spread were. I discovered an online tarot reading site, www.facade.com/tarot that really does take all the trouble out of doing a tarot reading, without losing any of the functionality or visual appeal. Best of all, it’s a genuinely free site, with none of those tricks that give you three cards for free and then try to get you to pay for the rest of the reading. The site offers a variety of spreads, so you’re not limited by the Celtic Cross, or just a simple one-card reading. You can even choose your deck, scanned from real decks that you can purchase from the site. So aside from being a fascinating divination tool, it also exposes you to new imagery – where else can you do a reading in a deck before buying it? You can even decide whether you want to use reversals – allowing the cards to fall upside down and having a different meaning – or a significator – a card that you feel embodies your role in the current situation to solidify your question. Type in your question, and you’re away. Obviously, the instant response you get isn’t channeled through a psychic, but is generated by a computer program, but if you believe that divination can occur through shuffling the cards, it’s not too much of a leap to imagine that it can act through the clicking of a mouse while you meditate on a question as well. The spread appears on your screen after a few seconds, with each card enlarged and explained in detail underneath. The relevance of the position is also discussed. The computer program isn’t quite clever enough to relate it back to you query, but speaks about “the current situation” and leaves it up to you to interpret the significance. If the reading really speaks to you, you have the option to mail it to yourself or a friend, so you can keep a record of it or refer back to it at a later date. The site has simple and efficient functionality, is a pleasure to use and lovely to look at. I feel that to review the psychic efficiency of the cards would be pointless, as we all find meaning wherever we look for it, but I have had a number of questions answered satisfactorily by the site. And if you enjoy the tarot section, you can make use of Façade’s other tools as well – runes, biorhythms, I-Ching or even an online coin-flip tool.
