Watch online or download podcasts of a large library of informative, educational and very watchable and engaging short films. The clips on green.tv are provided by a community of professional film makers and organisations and are rarely more than five minutes long so as not to put too much strain on bandwidth limitations. They are divided into the following categories; Technologies, Climate Change, Species, Water, People, and Land, and provide enough variety of styles and topics to interest everyone. Looking to the future One of the clips we found particularly powerful was the contribution by the WI (Women’s Institute) in the UK titled ‘A World Without Jam’. The content is provided by way of interviews with WI members about their thoughts on and the actions/steps they are taking to combat climate change. Where it gets particularly interesting is when the narrative moves 20 years into the future and one woman gives her personal insight into how climate change has affected her. New laws are in effect with energy rationing – power is turned off at 9.30pm, the family cars have been taken away and the kettle has been banned. It may seem frivolous but its one of the most powerful portrayals of the effects of climate change on personal level that we’ve seen, making a refreshing change from the politics and global dramas that we’ve all heard so much of recently. April Fool! Also worth a mention is the ‘Energy Wasting Day’ a fun April Fool looking at exactly how easy it is to waste energy. Dan Power, the Energy Wasting Guy, takes us through his daily routine from sticking his tiny whites into the tumble drier for a toasty start to the day and filling the kettle to ‘the max’ for his early morning coffee, just the beginning of the fun, cringe-making but ultimately thought-provoking look at our relationship with energy. Solar power for Seville Other interesting clips are the one-minute shorts on technology that quickly showcase the latest green technological developments. One of the most intriguing of these is the Solar Tower in Seville, Spain, a solar energy project that in few years time will provide all the electricity needs for the entire city. The explanations of the technology highlighted in each clip were at times frustratingly brief but it does provide a useful Google starting point to explore the developments in more detail. Check it out! So if you’re looking for a quick and enjoyable way to stay informed with the latest green issues, technology and news check out www.green.tv. |
