By Sustainable Table and Free Range Studios![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This excellent website seeks to educate consumers on the dangers of and ethical issues behind eating factory farmed meat. Through a wonderful parody of The Matrix trilogy, the Meatrix features three award winning and critically acclaimed short animated films that present a powerful message in an easy to digest format (pun intended). The stars of the film, Moo-pheus (the Lawrence Fishburne-esque Cow), Leo/Mr Ham-ison (the 'One') and Chick-ety (who right down to her hairstyle does a scary impression of Trinity) take us on a journey from our false perception of 'Happy Farm' to the reality of the meat industry. As Moo-pheus explains "The Meatrix is the lie we tell ourselves about where our food comes from…" whilst showing Leo the 'Happy Farm' where animals graze happily and live long and fulfilled lives. There are many hard hitting issues presented in these films such as; animal cruelty (where animals are crammed together into tiny spaces, chickens are debeaked to prevent them from hurting each other etc.), the use of huge amounts of antibiotics to keep the animals healthy (disease is rife in factory farming - and these antibiotics are not only entering the food chain but are also leading to antibiotic resistant strains of superbugs). The message of The Meatrix is not that we should all quit meat now and become vegetarians but rather that we should make conscious and informed decisions about where to buy our meat from, choosing sustainable and ethically manufactured meat.So for anyone who likes to know where the food they eat comes from, and is brave enough to find out, this is the perfect starting point. This is the powerful story of the author's struggle with Multiple Sclerosis and how a healer's unusual prescription of mindful altruism - to 'give away 29 gifts in 29 days' - ignited her energy, her happiness, and invited more abundance into her life.
