Astrology 2006

Unexpected good fortune is the overall potential and if South Africa forges ahead cautiously, the country is on the threshold of creating a new stability.

The top authority in the land may receive little support from its own advisors, some trade unions and certain youth organisations. Open enmity is everywhere and international relations may suffer for it. South Africa will be hurt by the loss of overseas investment. Many will fall from grace. Since the country's great leaders aren't getting younger, it's incumbent on the people themselves to become the change they want to see in the world.

Further, astrological indications suggest that opposition and problems seem to come from Joe Public and certain partners to South Africa. These problems will give rise to very costly measures that must address the very basis on which South Africa's survival rests.

The quirky side of fate seems to also harm the ecology, life in the seas, the prisons and women in confinement. And this continues to be a disruptive time for the government because of political manoeuvring.

Powerful energies are afoot
Hard though it may be to control pent-up energies, a happy medium must be sought between lashing out violently and feelings of futility in expressing opinions. Fear and self-undoing seem rampant; a rising death rate is another great cost to the nation. Other drains to the economy are attributed to weather and fire damage, increased danger on the roads, slackness in business, land and mining reforms, much quarrelling, lawsuits, conspiracies and power struggles. Dealing with such matters as unemployment may prove to be a frustrating ordeal for those in power.

Discretion is needed, since it may be unusually difficult to single out worthy charities, individuals and organisations from the rest. Some may fall prey to false teachers. Those who dazzle people with words by way of outlandish new religious or spiritual cults should be given a wide berth. In short, this period tests South Africa's grasp of reality and ability to give practical expression to the lofty principles contained in its Constitution.

Inflated egos: inflated economy
Exercising moderation in all areas of life supports wise moves and decisions. If you overestimate your importance, you're liable to attract opposition or forces that will bring you down. Events will reveal where to cut back or adjust behaviour.

Even if you've the energy to take on big tasks or challenges, you're liable to exhaust your resources if you miscalculate your strength, talents and financial wherewithal. On the other hand, with a sense of real courage, an accurate assessment of the facts and a solid reputation (nothing to hide), this is the year for making real waves. The potential for growth is enormous if a number of niggling issues are dealt with openly and efficiently.

Doing business
There are a few factors worth bearing in mind for those doing business in South Africa. For one, it's easier to be taken for a ride because of the potential for misrepresentation in financial dealings. And while some want something for nothing, others may be overloaded with work to the point of breakdown. One of the indications for the Cancer ingress suggests there may be tremendous frustration and the least little thing could set people off.

On the upside, the employment of women will rise and there may be good business in luxury and domestic goods. There is the potential for sudden opportunities and good luck, especially from end-March until mid-year.

Fortunate discoveries and inventions are likely and these may revolutionise child rearing and sexual and leisure activities. Unexpected good fortune will be the result of the country's own proper industry, but these will be outweighed if South Africa does little to address certain fundamental issues.

A nation of orphans
For instance, if hard work isn't put into South Africa's health problems and services, victory will be short. There may be a growing need for orphanages. Fear and false or negative beliefs destroy confidence, creativity and stability. These must be replaced with belief and trust in the promise of goodness in the country.

The author of "You Can Heal Your Life", Louise L. Hay attributes the cause of disease to subconscious patterns evidenced by habitually negative thinking and attitudes. For HIV/AIDS, she gives the following patterns as sufficient reason to attract this disease: "Feeling defenceless and hopeless. Nobody cares. A strong belief in not being good enough. Denial of the self. Sexual guilt."

Every individual is important in the grand design of things and South Africans owe it to themselves to give power to their immense talents and capabilities. There's place for everyone to work on health and other issues. For instance, not everything should be left to the orthodox medical fraternity. Laws to elbow alternative healers out of the picture would be detrimental.

From mid-year, there may be reason for love and passion to be tempered by sober considerations. A new problem with a bone disease may emerge, although arthritis, rheumatism and osteoporosis may also incline.

What to do
In your strategy for the year, calculate a contingency plan in case things do not turn out as anticipated. You might not be able to count on things staying the same. This is a bad year for taking on too much debt; borrowings from loan sharks aren't advised.

The downside is the potential for waste, overconfidence and empty promises. Chancing your arm thinking you cannot lose could be disastrous financially. Also, make sure that those you engage are worthy of your trust, friendship or charity. It may not be easy to see the truth behind appearances, especially when extremist views come into play.

South Africans are called to believe in what they're doing. If they don't, the forthcoming challenges and disruptions will confirm their own worst fears. A willingness to adjust as they go along will be helpful. Negative shouldn't be given existence. Despite the possibility of intense ego conflicts, suppressed rage and so on, the positive potentials are there and they need to be realised if everyone wants to be ready for the fabulous new opportunities promised in 2007.
