Seasonal highlights such as the winter solstice are relevant to those astrologers who use these peak times to predict political and others events the world over. Do the astrological meanings pertaining to the current solstice have any significance to us as individuals or as a country? According to Muqita, most resoundedly, yes. So, what are the implications? For Southern Africa, there is a clear impression that many challenging factors are at work. Places like New York do not get off that easily either. Unfriendly planetary angles involve a hard-hitting Mars, restrictive Saturn, indulgent Jupiter and, thankfully, an emotionally calm moon. The contradictions in meaning are likely to result in push-pull energies that may frustrate some. The prevailing mood Few astrologers have the time to cross-reference an ingress chart with the many others that are needed to predict actual events for a country. Yet, on its own, the ingress does provide some information about the prevailing mood for individuals. Jupiter's tastes for abundance may lead to rising costs, extravagance and outrageous tastes, while Saturn's conservative potential could contract tighter, bringing a commercial slowdown or restrictive circumstances. The action planet Mars gets you into hot water if you choose to react impulsively. How and whether you fulfil the potential of some of these meanings depends on contacts made by the current ingress to particular planets in your personal birth chart. Some individuals get off scot-free. Others may experience all manner of moods and sensations, including loneliness, depression and suppressed anger. With Jupiter around fake gestures, promises and sentiments may deceive you into a commitment you later regret. The tendency to overreact, overexpand and overextend your physical and financial resources begs that you exercise moderation in all spheres of activity. If Saturn's frustration is not properly channelled, it may lead to unhealthy escapism or severed relationships. Trusting to luck in finances and just about everything else, or going beyond your limitations seems to be the general warning. Take avoiding action But because there is a hole in the ground it does not mean you have to fall into it. The value of astrology is in noting the pitfalls and your own shortcomings so that you address issues and take avoiding action. If you suddenly feel rather arrogant or overconfident about a new financial project, for instance, beware. Check that you are not kidding yourself. This is an important time for mustering your organisational skills and discipline. If you are struggling with a work overload or grinding responsibility, the resulting imbalance in your energies caused by negative emotions (such as resentment) or pushing yourself to extremes always carries a price. Another scenario is a reluctance to grapple with difficulties practically and realistically, which can give the false impression that you are unreliable or ineffectual. If you agree to something for reasons of wanting to dominate others, win unearned power or glorify your own ego, you need to become more conscious of your motivations. Maybe you have a hidden agenda at work. Does your childhood conditioning mean that you are engaging in self-sabotage? On the upside - and there always is one - support comes from a strong moon. Rather than be at risk by thinking too big or too small or engaging false optimism, think positively about what you can do about your situation. Using the tension to stretch your skills and knowledge or grow as an individual will lead you to broaden your scope. As long as you are cautious, you can successfully expand your social circle and your sphere of influence and experience. The main thing is to stay in the moment, while taking all the factors before you into consideration so that you effect balanced judgements in your activities.
