4. Make sure you are comfortable. Sit in a comfortable position, wear loose clothing, and if it is warm, have bare feet. 5. Relax. If you are relaxed then your brain waves are more likely to go into an alpha pattern, which is most suitable for visualisation and meditation. 6. Start small and do simple visualisations. For instance if you find it difficult to visualise things, then start with a simple object like an orange. Look at it carefully, then close your eyes and try to see it in your mind's eye or on a screen in front of you. Keep opening your eyes again to check the object, until you feel you have it right, then simply watch the orange in your mind's eye or on the screen and see what happens, it may stay the same or it may change. Just observe. You will find this very relaxing. 7. Don't try too hard. Enjoy the experience, it is not a test, it is a skill. 8. Practice makes perfect. If you practice, your concentration and focus will improve. If you practice on a regular basis, once or twice a week, you will find that it becomes easier and easier 9. When doing a visualisation, use all your senses. You want to make the experience as real as possible. If you do an abundance of visualisation, for instance, then you need to make the experience of receiving what you desire as real as you can. Senses to use include smell, touch, sight, taste, and hearing. 10. Ground yourself properly when you finish a visualisation. When you open your eyes you need to physically anchor yourself by being aware of the chair you are sitting on, your breathing, the sensation of your body weight and so on. Don't get up too quickly. Give yourself time to make the transition from the world of the imagination to the world of physical reality. Once you’ve asked for what you want, release it – don’t obsess about it – and continue with your existence. Visualisation is a powerful communication and can become an important part of a spiritual practice. Your visualisations can become a way of communicating with the Universe - a visual prayer, rather than just a verbal one, as well as a useful way of connecting to the Divine.
