![]() The foods you eat on a regular basis play a very important role in your overall health. Food after all provides your body with the energy it needs to keep you going every day and fight off invading bacteria. If you could use a little more help in tuning into a healthy wavelength today then read on to learn about five foods that can provide fuel to boost energy and help stave off illness. These are foods that you’re probably not accustomed to eating all the time… until now. Cranberries Cranberries are good for you regardless of whether you eat the fruit or buy the juice. If you decide to drink cranberry juice however watch the sugar content in it. In particular, cranberries are beneficial for those who suffer from recurrent urinary tract infections (UTI’s). There are different types of urinary tract infections but the most common type is called cystitis and it can be helped by the consumption of cranberries. There is a chemical in cranberries called hippuric acid that resists bacteria when it comes in contact with it. This acid sets up a hostile environment in the bladder that bacterial infections do not like. For the health of your bladder think red and rosy. Think cranberries! Flaxseed AdvertisementFlaxseed is also plentiful in essential fatty acids (EFA’s) which preserve the life of cells and keeps many viruses and bacteria away. The body does not make essential fatty acids on its own which explains why eating flaxseed (also sometimes written as flax seed) is vital to good health. Garlic Garlic is a healer of many ailments. Research studies have shown how effective this super food is when it comes to protecting the heart and acting as a natural antibiotic. Garlic is rich in antioxidants which mean that it does its part to fight free radicals in the body that threaten to cause cellular damage. Garlic is also an excellent food to eat when you are suffering from a head cold or the flu. But that is not all. Garlic is beneficial in terms of strengthening the immune system and is very rich in antifungal properties. It will also help if your cholesterol is higher than it should be! Ginger Root Ginger root is a type of herb that you have probably seen it in its pure form in the produce department of the grocery store. Despite its odd appearance, ginger root has been used as a substance of healing for many centuries. In particular it works wonders on the digestive system when it is a little out of whack. Reach for ginger root in its pure form, or in pills or powdered form, whenever your stomach is upset. Studies have proven that ginger root is extremely effective for pregnant women in relieving morning sickness and in preventing motion sickness for travelers. Olive Leaf Extract Just as garlic is a natural antibiotic, so is olive leaf extract. Olive leaf extract shares something else in common with garlic - it has antifungal properties, but it goes one step further and also has antibacterial and antiviral properties. Olive leaf extract is not a food per se but is most often part of a supplement that includes other vitamins and minerals. While olive oil can do your body plenty of good in terms of improving your level of vim and vigor, consuming olive leaf extract on a regular basis can give you more energy, improve the work of the immune system, and help to make your heart stronger.
