![]() ![]() Are you one of the millions, so desperate to lose weight, that you’ll try anything and everything? The Cabbage Soup diet? The “grapes only” detox? The “low carb, high protein” plan? The “milkshake meals”? G5 shocking machines? Bands to wobble away fat? Jogging in a plastic suit? Well if so, you’re not alone. We’re trapped in the giraffe syndrome. As I say in my book: ‘Mind over Fatter: Learn to feel great without ever dieting again’ (Oshun R139.95): “A baby giraffe has no sooner fallen 10 feet from it’s mother’s womb, when it’s mother kicks it repeatedly until it wobbles back onto its legs only to have it’s mother kick it again so it has to repeat the struggle in order to build it’s leg strength so as to keep up with the herd in times of danger. Isn’t that exactly what we do to ourselves when it comes to dieting? Not only does our biology kick against unnatural diets, but sadly kicking ourselves is often the way we treat ourselves when the latest diet has failed us. It’s this very process that keeps us trapped in the clutches of the diet industry – the belief that it’s essential to get up, dust ourselves off and try yet another diet. This kicking may well keep baby giraffes safe from prey, but sadly, it only keeps diets preying on us. The giraffe syndrome works fabulously for the billion-dollar Diet industry. So long as they can con us into believing that WE are the failure and not their (usually expensive) product, they’re always going to have the upper hand.” The way isn’t crazy diets, it’s being body-wise.
