Are You Living in a “Box”?Most people today live their lives through a box, relying for their view of the world on the popular media that limits our thoughts and limits our lives through their overwhelming influence. We give up control by inviting the powers of TV, magazines, news, media, marketers and advertising to tell us what to do. They understand the power of the human mind, and they use it for their profits. TV is filled with the worst of human behaviors: war, murder, robbery, rapes, violence, hatred, sex, crime and corruption. It is projecting our world to be a very scary place, filled with criminals, terrorists, wars, drugs… and it keeps our minds focused on these negative views.

Many media outlets, such as TV, radio, newspapers and magazines, are influenced by their investors or owners who have their own agendas and who want to promote certain products, lifestyles, values and points of view. Other media outlets are simply after the “big story” in order to make more money and increase profits. Others are simply “followers” who gather news from other sources, re-package it and try to sell it again, purely for business and profit.

The negative messages and bad habits that we try to stay away from, and that we teach our children to avoid, are in our living rooms everyday. We allow it, and we welcome it into our homes, and even into our kids’ rooms! In many ways, we even let it raise our children.

TV is the perfect tool to program the mind. Watching TV puts you into a highly suggestible sleep-like hypnotic state. This provides easy access to the subconscious mind. When you watch TV, brain activity switches from the left side of your brain that is responsible for logical thought and critical analysis, to the right side. This is significant because the right side of the brain does not critically analyze incoming information; instead it uses an emotional response. This means there is little or no analysis of incoming information, and you are just accepting what you see or hear as facts. You may think that TV does no harm because you know it’s not real, but your subconscious mind believes it is reality. That’s why your heart beats faster when you watch scary films, and other programs may move you to tears or make you angry. You can dial up an alternate reality and escape what’s truly real.

Free Your Mind! Stop Watching And Start Living

One of the healthiest things to do for yourself and for your family is to get rid of your TV. All it takes is a decision: Turn off the television and video games, and encourage your family to start some productive activities. Play sports or read. There are so many useful activities we can do instead, places to visit, books to read and sports to play.

Ending The TV Habit
  • Decide to eliminate or at least limit your TV viewing.
  • Talk to your children about your decision and the reasons behind it.
  • Plan reading time everyday.
  • Plan new activities, such as painting, sports, writing, swimming, hiking and outdoor activities.
  • Get educational DVDs and videos to watch instead.
  • Be in control of what you watch and what you listen to.
