Family Constellations A systemic approach to healing History, individual and global events, continues to shape our lives in the same way as it did the lives of our ancestors. Our relationship with ourselves, others and life itself is generally determined by what went before. We not only inherit the genes and health of our forefathers, but also the coping strategies and belief systems that developed due to the events and situations they faced during their lifetimes. These deeply subconscious patterns can repeat themselves through generations, sometimes disrupting the natural “Orders of Love” and bringing imbalance to the family soul. Family Constellations is a gracious methodology that reveals inherited imbalances within the system and finds resolution by honouring what is. This work was developed by Bert Hellinger (www.hellinger.com), renowned German psychoanalyst, psychotherapist, former priest and best selling author. During his time as a missionary in KZN in the 1960’s he observed the age-old spiritual traditions of the Africans and a natural order that determines how family dynamics unfold at an unconscious level. He incorporated this knowledge with traditional psychology as well as contemporary methods such as NLP, Gestalt and Family Sculpture. Workshop participants are frequently amazed and deeply touched when the hidden love connections and entanglements within their systems are uncovered. For instance, could we ever imagine that unhappiness or health problems could be connected to a stillborn child of our grandmother? Or that difficulties with a current partner could be related to the first love of one’s mother? That the inability of an individual to feel they belong might be caused by the early death of a parent or sibling? Events that can disturb the family system: - An early death of parents or grandparents
- Tragic accidents where a member of the family has died
- Divorce
- Miscarriages, Stillbirths, Abortions, Death of a Child
- A member of the family forced into the role of “Black Sheep"
- War
- Holocaust Survivor Guilt/Loss
- Descendents of Jewish Pogroms
- Descendents of African slaves
- Adoptions
- A mother that dies during childbirth
